Exploring Theater at CCBC
Did you know that CCBC is home to two student theatre programs and three community theatres, with performance and audience opportunities for everyone? Take advantage of all CCBC has to offer by attending a performance or trying out for a show! Not only will you be able to connect with fellow students across a variety of disciplines, you’ll also be able to share in the experience of someone else’s story — a key piece of being a global citizen.
Theater is also a fantastic way to connect the lessons you’re learning in your classrooms to the world around you. As an audience member, you’ll get the opportunity to witness stories that give you insight into the lives of others. As a performer, you’ll have the chance to bring another’s story to life. Either way, you’re continuing the goal of the Humanities for All program by considering the world through a different lens.
And if you’re interested in incorporating theater into your degree, the theatre program at CCBC produces student theatre productions on the Essex and Catonsville campuses. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre at the Essex campus, CCBC offers both the A.A. and the A.F.A. in two tracks: Acting and Technical Theatre & Design. Students gain opportunities to experience, perform, and learn about theatre from a global perspective, while:
- Training in both large and small performing spaces.
- Attending small classes and receiving individual attention.
- Studying with experienced faculty who are all working professionals.
- Participating in five academic productions each year
- Participating in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival
The CCBC Theatre Program strives to instill in all students a commitment to artistic and personal excellence. Students have further opportunities to:
- Develop a solid foundation of theory and technique.
- Develop the verbal and technical skills necessary to communicate through their craft.
- Cultivate their intellectual, creative, and inner growth through participation in theatre.
